OTC drugs market in Romania, up by 22 pc this Q1

The domestic market of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, self-care medical devices and food supplements reaches RON 780.3 million in the first three months of the year, up by 22 percent year-on-year, Cegedim data reveal, as a press release informs.

During March 2016 – Marc 2017, OTC’s Lifestyle category has registered the highest market share – 22.6 percent, while in the first three months of 2017, the ‘Cold, Flu and Allergy’ category ranked among the top sales, with a market share of 27.4 percent due to the seasonality of the targeted diseases.

According to Razvan Bosinceanu, president of Romanian Association of the Self-Care Industry (RASCI), the diversity of products in the OTC category and the population’s tendency to pay attention to health have contributed to the growth and stability of the OTC segment.
