Over 20 editors from Lithuania and Valencia Region are coming to Bucharest this week to attend events within the 13th edition of Bookfest International Book Salon, due at Romexpo on May 30-June 3.
The visit of the foreign guests, representatives of two major associations of editors- Associació d’Editors del País Valencià (AEPV) and Lietuvos leidėjų asociacija (LLA) –, is part of a European project launched two years ago, with the Association of Editors in Romania teaming up.
The project is called PUBCOOP, and is a platform of European cooperation endorsed by the ”Creative Europe” programme, which aims at supporting the publishing houses of the three cultural areas- Valencia Region, Lithuania and Romania- in the international competition with the editors from the countries that have a rich tradition on the book market and which have a high financial power.
”The visit of such a consistent delegation of foreign editors at Bookfest must be seen as a sign of normality, although it is a first: Bookfest must also develop a dimension of trading rights, of professional debates and we must read the other events in the same note, such as the emplacement of a stall of the Literary Agents at this Bookfest edition, which is also a first,” said Mihai Mitrică, director of the Association of Editors in Romania.
The programme of the visit paid by the PUBCOOP editors starts on Wednesday, May 30, at 12:00, with an international conference on education, also attended by H.E. Hans Klemm, the U.S. ambassador to Romania.
Before Bookfest 2018, the editors from Valencia Region, Lithuania and Romania have previously had other encounters last year, within the international book fairs in Frankfurt, Paris and Vilnius.
The meetings within PUBCOOP initiative aim at laying the foundations of a long term collaboration on the copyright trading, on promoting books and authors, as well as on developing online networks intended to professionalise the employees working in the publishing sector in the three countries.
The cooperation among the three areas will also materialise through setting up an online portal dedicated to the copyright sales and purchases: literarymarket.eu.
The United States of America will be the guest of honour country at Bookfest International Book Salon this year, with four American female authors coming to the Romanian capital.
