The passenger traffic on Romanian airports increased by 23 percent in 2017 compared with 2016, Romanian Airports Association shows, due to low-cost companies expansion on the local market.
Thus, passenger traffic on the 17 airports in Romania exceeded the threshold of 20 million passengers. More exactly, last year on Romanian airports was registered a number of 20,284,022 transported passengers, 3,850,061 more year-on-year.
63 percent of 2017 traffic was generated by ’Henri Coanda’ International Airport in Otopeni, with 12.8 million passengers, up 16.8 percent compared to 2016, a historic record for the main airport in Romania.
Also, last year, Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) recorded total revenues of RON 1.08 billion, 8.3 percent more than 2016, and gross profit of RON 389.7 million, 45 percent more than in the previous year.
’Avram Iancu’ International Airport in Cluj-Napoca ranks second, with a traffic of 2.68 million passengers, up 43 percent compared to 2016.
Timisoara International Airport is the 3rd, with 1.62 million passengers, 40 percent more than in 2016. Of the total number of passengers, about 25 percent traveled on domestic flights (to Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi and Constanta).
At the opposite end, the fewest passengers, 44, were registered on Maramures airport. Also, few passengers arrived on Tirgu Mures – 748, due to works at the landing-take-off runway.
