Over 20 Romanian wineries, at ProWein 2016 fair. Up to 50 pc of domestic wine production is exported

Many of those 55,000 visitors all over the world attending this year’s edition of ProWein during March 13-15 in Dusseldorf, have tasted from the wine varieties presented by the 23 Romanian wineries. Their presence was supported by Wine Exporters and Producers Asociation in Romania (APEV) and Estika Wines – Romanian Wine Promotion Association.

Also, there were producers who had their own stands such as Cramele Vinarte, Crama Stirbey, Cramele Recas, who presented their wines within Estika Wines and VINUM (Europas Weinmagazin).

According to Alina Iancu founder of CrameRomania.ro and ReVino.ro, who was present at the event in Germany and discussed with exhibitors, the exposure to Prowein fair for the cellars in Romania ensures a level of visibility, that they, otherwise, would not have, as well as reaching a constant level of exports.

Germany is one of the sale markets of wines for local producers, along with England, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

“Cellars’ efforts to have international exposure are high in the past years and Romanian’s stands at ProWein have drawn visitors, but, nevertheless, the potential for exports is not yet reached at a satisfactory level. There is room for growth, considering that in Romania are wineries competing on the international market with quality wines,” Alina Iancu commented.

According to the official representative, Cramele Recas, Oprisor and Halewood export about 50 percent of production, Domeniile Sahateni – Aurelia Visinescu – 40 percent, SERVE – over 43 percent, followed by Petro Vaselo and Crama Ceptura – 30 percent and Vinarte, Corcova, Liliac, Stirbey and Cotnari – 8 percent up to 27 percent.

Each owner relates these figures to the size of the vineyard land and to the the annually quantity of wine.

At glance, 6,200 exhibitors from 59 countries participated at the ProWein 2016 in Dusseldorf, remaining one of the industry’s biggest trade fairs.
