“Year 2017 marks an important milestone in the history of Pakistan. This year, our Nation celebrates its 70th Anniversary of Independence. As a young nation that prides itself in being the inheritors of one of the oldest civilizations on the face of this earth, Pakistanis have excelled in every domain of their social life over the past seven decades. Pakistani Film and Infotainment Industry is no exception on this account.
Popularly known through its Sobriquet, “Lollywood”, the Pakistan Film Industry has produced over 10,000 Urdu feature-films since 1948. This is in addition to thousands of films that Lollywood has churned out in other regional languages.
These include over 8,000 films in Punjabi, 6,000 in Pashto and 2,000 Sindhi feature-length films. Our cinema has the unique characteristic of experimenting with an amalgam of education and entertainment as a means to raise social awareness among the Pakistani viewership,” reads a press release by the embassy.
