Polish e-shop Agito.pl rebranding, belonging to South-African group Naspers, in eMAG, the largest online retailer in Romania, will happen this fall, Romanian businessman Iulian Stanciu, who owns about a quarter of the Dante International shares, the company that bought Agito early last year announced, profit.ro informs.
Poland is the fourth international market where eMAG.ro will be active in, after Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
In January 2015, South Africa’s Naspers decided to expand sales platform of eMAG.ro retailer in Poland through the full takeover of Agito by Dante International.
With a turnover of EUR 80 M in 2014, Poland’s Agito retailer was fully controlled by Naspers, after buying a stake of 90 percent in 2012 for EUR 17.7 million.
“We had over 100 people involved in this process, it has not been easy but we learned a lot about how to integrate the two companies from different countries, with different business processes, cultures and technologies,” Stancu said.
According to him, only from software perspective, eMAG invested over EUR 2 million and hired many programmers in Romania
Agito was set up in 2002 as online retailer for electronics and household appliances and extended the range of sold products, becoming one of the strongest players on the online market in Poland. In 2008 was placed second in the ‘Deloitte Technology Fast 50’ standing, while in 2009 received the award Dot.com.
