About 400 people have resigned from USR political party in the past two weeks after chairman Dacian Ciolos had stepped down from the helm of the party. Other 100 joined the party ever since, said the party spokesperson Ionut Mosteanu on Monday.

“At first glance, it seems that about 400 colleagues have left since February 1st and about a hundred new colleagues have come. The departure of any colleague is a sad time for us and I thank all those who have chosen to give one second, one minute, one day, one day of life, for this party, I still believe that we are the best solution for the future of Romania. It is a difficult time for the party. As we have often gone through difficult times, we will get over it. I have confidence in my colleagues and in solidarity,” said the USR spokesman.

After Ciolos’ resignation, vice-president Catalin Drula took over the interim leadership of the party until new internal elections is held.
