After Senate President Ilie Bolojan announced that he would cut about 200 positions in the Senate, the government officials also said that they plan to reduce employees in the institutions.

Cseke Attila, the Minister of Development, wants to give up the antenna increase, and Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja announced that he will eliminate all vacant positions.

In turn, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced, in a Facebook post, that he will say how many positions “will disappear from the General Secretariat of the Government and all subordinate institutions” as soon as he has the exact data.

The government has announced that it plans to reorganize central public institutions and state-owned companies in order to reduce budget spending.

In this regard, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will continue discussions with ministers in his cabinet in the coming period to establish options for reducing public sector spending.

In addition to state secretaries in ministries, there are also presidents of authorities who have the rank of state secretaries. From about 120, the number of secretaries will decrease to 53-55, according to the data announced by the prime minister.

The leadership of the Parliament has already announced the reduction of civil servant positions by approximately 400. In the Senate, the plan was detailed by Bolojan. The car fleet and fuel quota will be reduced by 20%, and certain departments will be reorganized.

Following this announcement, Ilie Bolojan, the president of the Senate, attracted dislike and boos, even from employees. At the same time, several trade union federations have shown their support for the employees of the Parliament and consider that the announced reorganization measures lack transparency and fairness.

Among the protesters was Gabriela Crețu, former PSD senator and ex-wife of Dumitru Buzatu.
Gabriela Crețu was elected as a deputy in 2004, then as a member of the European Parliament, after which in 2009 she held the position of “permanent representative to the European institutions” in the Romanian Senate. She was suspended from this position, because she was elected as a senator for three terms: from 2012 to 2024. Now she has returned to the position she was appointed to in 2009.
The fact that, among those who protested at the Senate, there were also employees who were previously supported by PSD in public positions, represents a personal approach of those concerned,” the PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu retorted.
