ALDE Congress in April, as court rejects Daniel Constantin’s appeal – party says

ALDE informs in a release that the Bucharest Court rejected the appeal filed by co-chair Daniel Constantin, asking for the suspension of the party congress, so that the congress will be held according to the schedule during April21-22.

“The Bucharest Court ruled on Thursday, April 13, to reject the complaint filed by Daniel Constantin and a few of his close friends to suspend the Congress of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE). Consequently, the ALDE congress will be held as scheduled by the National Standing Delegation for April 21-22,” the release reads.

According to the release, the Bucharest Court ruling follows a decision taken by a majority of ALDE leading members (from the Liberal Reformist Party – PLR and the Conservative Party – PC) and of all ALDE county branches, except for a part of the Galati branch, “despite Daniel Constantin’s and his cronies’ desperate attempts to defeat the will of the majority for their own interests.”

“The decision shows that Daniel Constantin’s approach was based not on the breach of ALDE’s statute, but on pride, frustration and on the personal agenda of some people,” the release reads.

Daniel Constantin appealed to the Bucharest Court the ALDE Standing Delegation decision to organise the Congress in April.

On Wednesday, ALDE Co-chair Daniel Constantin, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment in the Sorin Grindeanu cabinet until the party withdrew political support upon pressures from the other co-chair Calin Popescu Tariceanu, announced that he will submit to the court a request to disband ALDE and return to PC and PLR, the two parties that have formed an alliance.

ALDE Co-Chair Daniel Constantin blocked the party’s accounts last week after the party leadership decided to withdraw political support and he was dismissed from the government.

Daniel Constantin notified the bank where the party has accounts, saying that there is a lawsuit pending, and the bank representatives have decided that, until the situation is clarified, the amounts cannot be accessed by anyone in the party.
