ALDE leader, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, has said on Wednesday that his party will not get involved in the campaign for referendum on ‘traditional family’ and has argued a law on civil partnership is needed.

“In regard to the referendum, ALDE will not get involved in the campaign. We will recommend the voters to follow their conscience. We need to respect everyone’s freedom to have his intimate life as he chooses. After the referendum, we will have to promote a bill on civil partnership,” Tariceanu said.

The message delivered on Wednesday comes one day after Tariceanu had been admonished on this issue by the ALDE colleagues, ziare.com reports. The ALDE European family is a constant supporter of sexual minorities.

PM Dancila: PSD will not campaign for the family referendum

While in Brussels on Wednesday during a meeting with the European Socialists, PM Viorica Dancila said it’s everybody’s duty to show what the referendum for family means, but added PSD would not campaign on it. She also said that the initiative to amend the Constitution is not headed “to a certain sexual orientation”.
