Barna-Ciolos tandem for President-PM highly probable
PLUS president Dacian Ciolos told G4Media.ro this weekend that a tandem for President-PM candidate within USR-PLUS Alliance is almost certain.
“My colleagues from USR already consider having a candidate for Presidency, we also consider it. We also consider to nominate a candidate for the prime minister position, in the light of our goal to form a parliamentary majority to rule Romania. So, USR-PLUS Alliance will have a tandem: the candidate for presidential election and another one for PM. PLUS will have a national council next Saturday to also discuss about the selection process for presidential election and for the PM seat and then we’ll agree this tandem with USR“, Ciolos said according the above-mentioned source.
USR will also have a Congress on July 13, with high chances for the chairman Dan Barna to be designated as contender for the Cotroceni seat. Sources told Digi24 that USR is expecting PLUS to announced their support for Dan Barna, while USR will endorse a PLUS’ candidate for the premier position after the general elections next year.
Dacian Ciolos, who has won a MEP seat at the recent EP elections and has been elected as the president of the new group in the EP, Renew Europe, also said that the main goal of the the two parties is to provide a parliamentary majority able to rule Romania after the elections in 2020. Ciolos added that the PLUS candidates for the local and parliamentary elections due next year are to be set at the end of August.
