AUR President George Simion announced that an appeal against the rejection of Călin Georgescu’s candidacy by the Central Electoral Bureau is on its way to the Constitutional Court. The appeal is signed by Georgescu and the AUR and POT parliamentary groups.
Simion also said that Georgescu will exhaust all legal avenues to defend his candidacy. “The BEC has no right, when all the issues related to documents, signatures, form are met, it has no right to reject a candidate. All the issues related to a candidacy file have been met,” Simion said. “We don’t have high hopes,” Simion admitted, resuming the accusations related to a “coup d’état.”
“But Mr. Călin Georgescu will exhaust all legal avenues. We will go with him to the end. We are waiting for his decision“, Simion added.
He said that plan A, resuming the second round of last year’s elections, and plan B, regarding Georgescu’s candidacy in the May elections, have been exhausted, but they will come forward with another announcement if necessary.
“In this case, Mr. Călin Georgescu will come to communicate what to do next, because he is the most voted Romanian“. He was asked by journalists if he is considering a president-prime minister tandem in which he would take part alongside Călin Georgescu.
“When they make an announcement, Mr. Călin Georgescu will make it. An executive position would suit me better, but I do not condition my support. We cannot detail the plan, all the issues we discussed are a tactical matter. We have taken into account all the scenarios to get out of this situation”, declared George Simion.
At the same time, Georgescu made his first appearance today after BEC’s rejecting his candidacy, next to the leaders of two parliamentary parties, AUR and POT.
“We are going together to the end. Peace, freedom and democracy,” claims Călin Georgescu in a video posted on social media on Monday, in which he appears alongside AUR leader George Simion and POT president Anamaria Gavrilă.The video was shared by George Simion on his Facebook page, with the message:
“Follow the instructions and we will escape the dictatorship! We know what we have to do, follow the organizational instructions, calmly and PEACEFULLY!”.
In his video message, Călin Georgescu thanks the Romanian people: “We are together, me together with Anamaria, with George Simion. We are going together to the end for the same values: peace, democracy, freedom. I thank the Romanian people for everything they are doing, but I ask you once again, everything in silence, everything in peace and in good knowledge of the reality that we must not give rise to violence or other forms of this kind compared to how it was yesterday evening. We are moving forward with great confidence for the future of this country. Ana Maria and George Simion will take care of all the organizations from a political point of view.”
“There will be two or three days when we have to be very active. Please follow what the POT members, the AUR members tell you, through unity we will get out of this impasse and we are with the most voted Romanian. Until the end”, said George Simion, in his turn.
“We are together and we are the most united. Do not be disappointed, we are the strongest. We are here, we are all three, we work together and we will succeed together. God help us!”, said Gavrilă.
