CCR received a request to cancel the 2nd round of the elections
The Constitutional Court of Romania is to discuss a request to annul the second round of the presidential elections, CCR officials said on Tuesday. The complaint was filed on Monday.
Representatives of the CCR confirmed the existence of the file, but have not yet communicated details about who filed the appeal, or the reasons for the appeal.
On Thursday, the hearing on the validation of the presidential elections is expected to take place.
The CCR is meeting on Wednesday, with the agenda to debate a challenge regarding the Sunday, May 18, election. The challenge was filed on Monday.
On Tuesday, George Simion also announced that he intends to challenge the election results, but for now, the challenge filed by the AUR leader has not been filed. The CCR is considering organizing a meeting to validate the May 18 election on Thursday, but the details will be determined after the debate on the challenge.
Also on Tuesday, the Association Center for Local Politics (CPL) announced that it had initiated legal proceedings to annul the second round, citing “serious electoral fraud.” The same association has previously made efforts to help Călin Georgescu, and its president Radu Ciubotea said that he believes “every second in Călin Georgescu’s ideas.”
