The Chamber of Deputies has approved on Wednesday 154 votes for, 78 against and 2 abstentions, a draft bill allowing any pharmacy to operate wholesale operations. The law, initiated by the social-democratic MPs, allows conducting drug exports by any pharmacy and pharmacy chain. According to hotnews.ro the result could be immoral against Romanian buyers, as a medicine distributor could take out the drugs from the domestic market (where prices are low) to sell on European markets, with higher prices. Hence, the medicine distributors lobby would set up a parallel and hard to monitor mechanism to conduct wholesale exports.

Romanian medicine market is one of the low priced markets in Europe.

The draft bill was initiated by PSD and by minorities’ MPs.

Initially, the draft law was rejected by Senate. However, the Chamber of Deputies is the decisional body. The law is up for promulgation to President Klaus Iohannis.
