Chamber of Deputies Speaker Liviu Dragnea and PM Sorin Grindeanu attended the pre-inauguration dinner at Washington D.C.’s Union Station on Thursday, an event joined by Donald Trump and his wife Melania. According to Dragnea, who posted photos of him and PM Grindeanu talking to Trump, they told Romania wants to take the strategic partnership with the U.S. to another level.
“Last evening I had the honor to attend, together with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu, a dinner at close quarters alongside President-elect of the USA Donald Trump. I have conveyed the President our wish to take the strategic partnership between Romania and the U.S. to another level. President Donald Trump replied: “We will make it happen! Romania is important for us!.” It was a warm and open dialogue,” the Social Democrat Party (PSD) chairman posted on Facebook, also attaching several photos.
Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu also posted on Facebook on Thursday evening about “the first meetings” with the new members of the team at the White House.
“Last evening, in Washington, D.C., face to face with President Donald Trump, alongside Chairman Liviu Dragnea. The first meetings with new members of the team at the White House, of whom I mention here only Rudolph Giuliani,” Grindeanu mentioned in a post on Facebook.
Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu and Speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber Liviu Dragnea told media before leaving that they would attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, which prompted the Romanian Presidency to retort that tradition says that the states are represented by their ambassadors in Washington at the swearing-in ceremonies of the American presidents.
However, media says that anyone can join the swearing-in ceremony for an attendance fee ranging between USD 25,000 and USD 1 M.
One of the most expensive tickets, referred as donations in this case, were precisely for the pre-inauguration dinner on Thursday night also attended by Liviu Dragnea and Sorin Grindeanu, with the price ranging between USD 500,000 to USA 1 M.
The attendance to the pre-inauguration dinner had various access levels, according to the donated sum of money, according to a leaflet of the swearing event, quoted by Politico and New York Times.
Several days ago, when announced he would go to the US to attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, Liviu Dragnea referred that the Chamber of Deputies will pay for the trip, an information countered by the Social Democrat Party’s treasurer later on, who mentioned that the party is paying the trip.
