The Chamber of Deputies plenary sitting on Wednesday Okayed the draft that is amending the Chamber regulation so that Valeriu Zgonea could be revoked from the Chamber speaker position.
The vote took place after Valeriu Zgonea had withdrawn from the presidium, arguing he cannot preside a plenary sitting where a draft contradicting the laws is voted.
The draft resolution amended the procedure of revoking the Chamber Speaker. According to it, the Chamber speaker ends his mandate when he loses political endorsement or if the deputies vote for his revocation “on the motion of the leader of the parliamentary group that he initially proposed him”.
The draft resolution was Okayed with 11 votes to one.
Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea, kicked out from the Social Democrat Party in April, vetoed the summons of the two chambers of the Parliament on Wednesday to debate his revocation, denouncing procedural irregularities and “the arrogance” of the Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
“I am shocked that a former prime minister, a Chamber speaker has this type of behavior in relatioj with the other member of the Chamber, a fellow of him (…) Tariceanu is arrogant with me, but he is very obedient on the stairs in Kiseleff (PSD’s central headquarters), I presume it’s there where the important positions are given,” Zgonea stated, adding that he will not agree on the Chambers summons until he gets an answer to the letter he has sent to Tariceanu last Friday.
PSD chair Liviu Dragnea stated on Tuesday that the leader of the Social Democrat in the Chamber of Deputies risks losing his position if he is obstructed by procedural issues on Zgonea’s revocation matter.
Last week, Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu and PSD forced the summons of an extraordinary sitting of the Parliament’s joint standing bureaus to discuss amending the statute in order to revoke Valeriu Zgonea.
The Social Democrat Party has been struggling to strip Zgonea from his Chamber Speaker position since April-end when he has been ousted from the party amid row with chair Liviu Dragnea, with dispute starting after Liviu Dragnea had been sentenced to two year on probation in the Referendum file.
