The National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) has taken notice ex-officio about the statements made by Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă – who called as “autistic” those who “misinform the EU” – the head of the Executive will be quoted for hearings next Tuesday, the CNCD president, Asztalos Csaba (photo), has said on Friday.
“We have started an ex-officio review procedure … On Tuesday we will organize the citation and hearing of the Prime Minister, after that we will adopt a decision,” Asztalos Csaba said.
He also spoke about the fact that the PM has apologized after the statement.
“The excuses from a person who is accused or finds out that she has discriminated is a mitigating circumstance that is usually taken into account when imposing a sanction, as was the case with Mr. Mihai Tudose (former PM, our note), who apologized publicly and, after his statement, the College took these excuses into account,” Asztalos Csaba said.
Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă has publicly apologized for the Thursday evening statement in a televised broadcast and said that she did not want to offend people with autism.
“I firmly express my support for people with disabilities, whatever their nature, people who need our care and support, we have a duty to show understanding and humanity, to respect their rights, to defend their dignity,” Prime Minister Dăncilă said, according to a Government press release.
“I have been actively involved in everything that promotes and defends the rights of people with disabilities. As Prime Minister, I will use all the legal levers to put into practice, as soon as possible, active measures to solve the difficulties they face,” Viorica Dăncilă said.
Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said on Thursday evening for Antena 3 TV private broadcaster that she wants a transparent approach with the European leaders on the rule of law in Romania, calling “autistic” the politicians who, in the debates at the European Parliament, criticized the stance of the Bucharest authorities regarding the European values.
“I want a much better relationship with the leaders of the European institutions, because we will have an important period with the EU – the EU rotating Presidency, and I think it is very good to be able to sit at the table when talks about the future of Europe take place, when it comes to shaping the policies at European level. A fair and transparent approach, in which information is taken from the Government and to avoid misinformation that has created so much dissatisfaction, “Viorica Dăncilă told Antena 3 TV.
Asked who are the Romanians misinforming the EU, the prime minister said: “I know the Romanians in Brussels. I do not exclude the Romanians in the country from doing this.”
“We know how much damage Mrs. MEP Monica Macovei has done to us for nine years in the European Parliament. (…) I have seen good Romanians, my MEP colleagues, who defended Romania in Brussels and who showed the lies and misinformation practiced at the level of the Parliament, at the level of the European Commission. I have congratulated Dan Nica, Puiu Paşcu, Norica Nicolai, Victor Boştinaru, Maria Grapini, all the other colleagues who wanted to show the reality. I had done the same thing for years. I want to have another approach, so that the European leaders are properly informed and what we have seen so far does not repeat,” Dăncilă said.
“These people, to be elegant, misinform and they know the reality, but they do not want to accept it and they do not want to see it. I believe these people are autistic (politicians) and do not see or hear what is visible to all those in good faith,” Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, former MEP, said Thursday evening.
