The parliamentary committee probing into the 2009 presidential elections has decided on Monday to inform Romania’s President on a potential bar of the committee’s activity following the denial of the Romanian ambassador to US, George Maior (former director of the Romanian Intelligence Service) to answer some questions on this issue.

The members of the inquiry committee will meet Justice Minister and Romania’s Prosecutor General, Augustin Lazar, this week on the topic of the 2009 elections file. The discussions come at Lazar’s request.

“We have voted to send a note to Romania’s President on the fact that Mr. Maior’s answers were not satisfying,” said the committee chairwoman, Oana Florea.

The committee will also send a note to the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), formerly led by George Maior to ask for an official position related to the potential presence of the service’s two employees at Gabriel Oprea’s house on the night of the presidential elections in 2009.

George Maior was heard in the Parliament in June on this topic. The former committee’s chairman Mihai Fifor said that Maior had said he attended the meeting hosted at Oprea’s place as private person.

However, later in the day, Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar stated that he is not aware of any meeting with the members of the parliamentary committee on the 2009 elections.
