Crin Antonescu files candidacy for the presidential elections on Sunday
Crin Antonescu, the independent candidate of the PSD-PNL-UDMR and Minorities coalition, will submit his file to the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) for the May presidential elections on Sunday, March 9, confirmed PSD deputy Mihai Ghigiu. Crin Antonescu is going to the BEC on Sunday to submit his file, but the PSD parliamentarian did not specify the time at which the action is scheduled.
In a recent stance, Crin Antonescu has slammed the “agitators” who are trying to push interim President Ilie Bolojan into the race for Cotroceni, insisting that it is “out of the question” for him to withdraw or be replaced as the ruling coalition’s candidate in the May elections. “Only I can defeat Călin Georgescu,” Antonescu claims.
“It is out of the question that I will withdraw or be replaced as a candidate” in the presidential elections in May, Crin Antonescu said. He insists that Ilie Bolojan has “said it clearly” and “repeatedly” that he will not run, but that “there is a band of prompters who are trying to push him to do something that he does not want.”
“How many times does Ilie Bolojan have to repeat that he is not running for the restless voices to calm down?” he asks. Antonescu then states that “the agitators also know the truth,” namely that he is “in second place in the polls, is supported by a strong coalition, and in the second round neither Elena Lasconi nor Nicușor Dan have any chance against Călin Georgescu.”
Călin Georgescu will file his candidacy on Friday, at 4:00 PM, confirmed on Tuesday the leader of AUR, George Simion, who supports him.
The deadline for submitting candidacy files to the BEC for the presidential elections is March 15, inclusive. The electoral campaign begins on April 4 and ends on May 3, at 7:00 AM, according to the calendar adopted by the Government. The presidential elections’ first round is due on May 4, while the runoffs on May 18.
