The Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) meeting, convened on Thursday, reviewed recent developments regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. CSAT members consider the latest escalations to be “new flagrant violations of international law,” according to a statement released by the Presidential Administration.

During the meeting, additional measures were discussed to deter and combat security threats, to be implemented at the national level and with the support of NATO Allies.

One of the conclusions of Thursday’s CSAT meeting is that Romania is directly interested in having industrial capacities on the national territory that can ensure the production of modern military equipment.

“A first topic addressed was the recent developments regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, including the latest escalations, which constitute new flagrant violations of international law by the Russian Federation. Their impact on regional security in the Black Sea was analyzed, with significant European and Euro-Atlantic implications, and additional measures to deter and combat security threats were discussed, to be implemented at the national level, as well as with the support of the Allies within NATO”, the Presidential Administration said in a press release.

At the same time, the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country analyzed the options for strengthening the Strategic Partnership with the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the “risks for the effective and consistent management of the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova”.

“During the discussions, the major opportunities arising from the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union were highlighted, but also the challenges it faces in the context of the hybrid actions of the Russian Federation and the war of aggression waged against Ukraine. These are challenges that require careful, coordinated management on the part of Romania and Chisinau’s partners, including by providing adequate support”, the Presidential Administration mentions.

“These threats and risks determine, in almost all cases, implications for Romania as well. That is why the main foreign policy objective of our country in relation to the Republic of Moldova is to support and ensure the irreversibility of the European course, by supporting the implementation of reforms and the necessary public policies, based on the consolidated bilateral Strategic Partnership. The constant revalidation, in an amplified way in recent years, of Romania’s position as the main supporter of the Republic of Moldova, as a provider of assistance and concrete solutions (from gas to electricity, fuel, human resources, consultancy) and as the main voice promoting the European agenda of Moldova creates the most favorable premises for the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership“, says the press release.

At the same time, the members of the Council addressed the Romanian Army Endowment Plan 2025-2034, “reference document for armaments planning, through which the correlation is made between the operational needs of military technique and equipment for equipping the force structure and the financial resources expected to be allocated for the endowment, and the discussions on this subject will be continued”.
