Dacian Cioloş: Everything can be wasted overnight so that a handful of individuals evade the law

Former PM Dacian Cioloş is critical against the steps taken by the PSD-ALDE government, which he claims are not aimed at Romanians’ welfare, but at the discrediting of the anti-corruption policies in Romania.

“The way things were done today (on Wednesday – our note), the steps taken for the pardon/amnesty, in any form or at any time it will be promoted, it creates suspicion that the central objective of the PSD-ALDE government is another one:

Not the Romanians’ welfare, as they claimed before and after the election.

Not the public interest, the citizens and the economic environment.

Not Romania’s interest in a very difficult geostrategic context.

The main objective was and remains that some individuals evade the criminal laws.

Nothing else matters, no sacrifice is too great: the citizens observing the law, the country, its credibility, Romania’s European status. All these can be sacrificed overnight so that a handful of individuals evade the law.

It’s simple and cynical.

The regulations made stealthily show contempt for the citizens. The duplicitous way the issue of prisons overcrowding is used, as pretext to discredit the anti-corruption policies in Romania, is unacceptable.
