Daniel Constantin, another two members, ousted from ALDE
The ALDE leadership has decided on Thursday to expel Daniel Constantin (former co-chairman), Eugen Durbaca and Mircea Banias from the party. The decision comes following the dispute at the helm of the party between Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Daniel Constantin.
“There was a vote on ousting from the party three members, Daniel Constantin, Mircea Banias and Eugen Dubarca. They have opposed the party’s decisions lately and have adopted duplicitous positions on ALDE,” said vice-president Andrei Gerea on Thursday.
ALDE Political Bureau has decided a week ago to request the Standing Delegation to expel Daniel Constantin from the party. The reasons for this request lie in the lawsuits against the party opened by Daniel Constantin.
ALDE Co-chair Daniel Constantin, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment in the Sorin Grindeanu cabinet until the party withdrew political support upon pressures from the other co-chair Calin Popescu Tariceanu, has submitted to the court a request to disband ALDE and return to PC and PLR, the two parties that have formed an alliance. The Bucharest Court however rejected the appeal.
Constantin had also blocked the party’s accounts last week after the party leadership decided to withdraw political support and he was dismissed from the government.
The dispute between the two ALDE co-chairmen escalated in mid-March when Calin Popescu Tariceanu disclosed that he had been practically blackmailed by the other ALDE co-chair Daniel Constantin at the previous general elections regarding certain party members who were to run for an MP seat, adding that he had conceded for otherwise the party would have risked gridlock and would have failed to file the lists.
In his turn, the other co-chairman Daniel Constantin said it is “embarrassing” that Calin Popescu Tariceanu is talking about he is being blackmailed when the lists for the general elections have been made, considering that Tariceanu would have insisted to designate persons facing law problems.
PSD’s Dragnea: the ousting won’t affect the ruling coalition. I personally regret it
The Social Democrat chairman Liviu Dragnea stated that the ALDE scandal and Daniel Constantin’s ousting won’t affect the ruling coalition, yet saying that he personally regrets that Constantin and Tariceanu haven’t managed to find a linking “bridge”.
“The parliamentary majority won’t be affected but, I personally regret it the situation, I regret that Mr. Tariceanu and Mr. Constantin haven’t managed to find a linking bridge after we set up the coalition,” said Dragnea.
He also pointed out that it is not OK that Daniel Constantin is not at ALDE helm and in the Government anymore. “I personally regret that the team is not complete anymore,” the PSD chair added.
