Elena Lasconi sparked discontent within the USR after she decided to send a letter to US President-elect Donald Trump without consulting the party, relying only on the advice of her advisors. Currently, voices within the party believe that this strategy was a wrong one, and the consequences could affect the USR’s chances of governing.

The USR presidential candidate wrote a letter to Donald Trump on December 8, in which she spoke about the cancellation of the elections in Romania and in which she told the American president that he is a true leader of the people, just like her. The letter was first made public on the x platform, where she also tagged billionaire Elon Musk.

The move was criticized in the public space for the way it was drafted, but also for the entire initiative itself. Elena Lasconi also faced criticism from the party.

According to Digi24, Lasconi only listened to the advice of consultants, without discussing with the party leaders or at least without taking their opinion into account, a decision that did more harm than good, say some voices, in the context in which the party is currently focusing on its governing plans.
