Social-democrat President Liviu Dragnea said Tuesday night for Romania TV that Senator and PSD Vice-president Gabriela Firea could be ‘a very good option’ for the Bucharest City Hall, but the Social-Democrats have not adopted a decision, so far.
Liviu Dragnea said nothing is decided yet, but stressed the importance of local elections in 2016. “The elections for Bucharest City Hall are extremely important. They’re not a game,” he said.
Gabriela Firea is PSD Senator, Vice-president of the party, president of PSD Ilfov, and spokesperson for the party branch. Firea is PSD member since September 2012. Last year, the PSD Senator was spokesperson of the party during the presidential campaign for Victor Ponta.

Liberals, convinced they would win the elections

Secretary General of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Marian Petrache, said on Wednesday about a Firea’s possible candidacy for the Bucharest City Hall that the capital city needs a highly competitive candidate, saying he is convinced that the Liberals will win the elections.
“I am confident that all parties will have a candidate in Bucharest. PSD probably will have Ms. Firea. PNL is bound to have a candidate agreed upon by the voters of the right to gather many votes from the undecided. I am convinced that the Liberal Party will win the elections in Bucharest,” said Petrache. He argued that, according to opinion polls, PNL is the favourite to win the Bucharest City Hall.
