Chairman of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, has announced today that the members of the ruling PSD-ALDE coalition will decide on Monday if they will go for suspension in President Iohannis’ case, as they had previously hinted.
Dragnea though said suspension „must be a serious option”.
„I don’t wait for an answer (from president Iohannis on recalling DNA chief prosecutor) for it’s not me whom he should answer, but to the Constitution that he disrespects. He is not interested in the Constitution, in the law, he is only interested in his own interest. He used to talk about the majority’s dictatorship, well this is exactly the approach of a dictator, for this is what the majority through elections represents, the democracy. He is disturbed by the majority. It’s precisely the logic of a dictator. Elections don’t count, all that matters is to have CCR and institutions subordinated. I talked to Mr. Tariceanu (Senate speaker, ALDE chairman) and I told him my stance that suspension of the president must be a serious approach. Maybe he (Klaus Iohannis) will send another adviser to threaten a CCR judge, or he might have sent one to threaten a judge from the Supreme Court,” Dragnea stated.
He pointed out that the Coalition leaders will decide on Monday on the opportunity of suspending the head of state.
The Social Democrat have juggled the idea of suspending Klaus Iohannis from office lately, over his denial to issue the decree of dismissing the anti-corruption head Laura Codruta Kovesi.
