EP opinion poll on European elections race in Romania: PNL ranks first, PSD second, USR-PLUS third

An opinion poll commissioned by the European Parliament and conducted by Kantar Public probing into the political landscape in the EU countries preparing for the European elections due on May 26 reveals that in Romania, the National Liberal Party (PNL) is raking first with 25.2%, followed by the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD)-21.5% and USR-PLUS Alliance 2020 with 17.7%.

ALDE led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu ranks fourth-12.7%, while ex-PM Victor Ponta’s Pro Romania comes next with 11.2%. UDMR would get 5.1%, while former president Traia Basescu’s PMP would not enter the European Parliament as it is ranked with 4.7%.

On seat projection, Romania would have 32 seats in the future European Parliament, 12 within EPP, 10- S&D, ALDE-4, ECR-2 and others -4.

In Pro Romania’s case, the projection presumes that 60% of its attributed seats will go to S&D, and 40% to the ECR.

As for the USR-PLUS Alliance 2020, the projection presumes that 40% of the seats attributed to them will go to EPP and 60% to “Others”.

The Kantar poll took over the data of the IMAS poll revealed on April 5.
