Former deputy premier Gabriel Oprea announced the MPs from the inquiry committee for the 2009 presidential elections that he would not come for hearings, as scheduled.
“Regarding your request to come in to the parliamentary committee, I inform you that in April 2017 I was heard as a witness on the same topic at the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Supreme Court in a file where prosecutors have opened in rem criminal prosecution. As I am subject in a criminal case according to the article 34 in the Criminal procedure code and as the judicial procedure is not public, to prevent the potential breach of the confidential state of the criminal prosecution procedure, you need to file a request for a preliminary consent of the Prosecutor’s Office upon the Supreme Court in order to hear me,” reads Oprea’s letter to the lawmakers.
In retort, the chairman of the inquiry committee probing into the 2009 presidential elections, Mihai Fifor, has stated that he would send a letter to the Prosecutor General presenting him the committee’s goals and he would also send a new invitation for hearing to Gabriel Oprea.
