Constantin Dudu Ionescu, former Interior minister during the Romanian Democratic Conventin (CDR) ruling, will be state adviser for national security with the Presidential Administration, official sources told Mediafax. His nomination is to be approved by president Klaus Iohannis.

Dudu Ionescu, 59, was secretary of state with the Defense Ministry, then Defense Minister during February-April 1198 and finally, Interior Minister during January 1999-December 2000. He was supported by the National Peasant Party for all these positions.

Ionescu ran for parliamentary elections in 2008, on behalf of the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL), in a Bucharest constituency. He did not get the MP position however, although he ranked first on votes number.
