Former PM Victor Ponta has released a new photo featuring PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea next to former Interior minister, Gabriel Oprea and former deputy PM Vasile Dâncu, attending an event that was not official. Ponta added that he had remembered how Liviu Dragnea „used to fight” to be invited at former intelligence director George Maior’s birthday party.
„I am convinced that all those who claimed in TV that the picture was fake, have been misinformed by Mr. Dragnea. All this story with Mr. Dragnea fighting the parallel state is a lie from top to bottom. He has never fought in any way. He has always wanted to be friend of those representing the state. If he really wanted to stop abuses, he has had total power for two years,” Victor Ponta told a press conference on Tuesday.
The former premier says that photo released today is featuring Dragnea next to Gabriel Oprea and Vasile Dâncu attending a unofficial event, someone’s birthday, in a month of September.
„I remember how much he has fought to come to George Maior’s birthday. He asked me ten times when the birthday is, where it is, to make sure he is invited,” Ponta added, revealing the pictures had been taken by Sebastian Ghita (editor note: former PSD MP, investigated in several corruption files, currently in Serbia)
Former Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, has posted on his Facebook page a photo with PSD leader, Liviu Dragnea, together with former Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) chief George Maior. In the background can be seen the former National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) chief prosecutor, Laura Codruta Kovesi, dismissed from office following a Constitutional Court decision after a procedure launched by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader.
Former Liberal head Crin Antonescu: Ponta-Dragnea photo row is „a pathetic skid row”
Former chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Crin Antonescu has taken stand on Tuesday, saying the dispute between Victor Ponta and Liviu Dragnea on the photos with former SRI director Maior is „a pathetic skid row”, adding that the matter is a serious one for there has been „an unhealthy interference” between politicians and certain state institutions”, but that nobody is debating the issue in substance.
Antonescu claimed that these photos do not prove anything and that major issues of the societies are avoided.
He told Digi24 that what’s happening is not making him want to return in politics.
