Comey said after meeting Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) director Eduard Hellvig that cyber crimes are making all of us neighbors and in order to face this we must become a global community of law compliance. “Together with our colleagues in Romania we are working to bring major cyber criminality cases before court,” Comey informed.
FBI director also underlined he is “privileged” to be in Romania in order to celebrate “one of the best partnerships that FBI has in the entire world.”
“It is a friendship that we’ll keep on improving. We commit to maintain this friendship and to assure our partners in Romania and worldwide that we shall collaborate to defend our citizens,” Comey said.
As a matter of fact, FBI director stressed the importance of Romania-USA partnership in fighting against terrorism and crime, exemplifying that 32 Romanian officers have graduated the FBI National Academy so far.
He also wished Hellvig “a wonderful and solid mandate,” while thanking him for the partnership between SRI and USA.
In his turn, the new head of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Eduard Hellvig thanked James Comey for FBI’s “high availability” to answer SRI’s “operational requests”. He also said they agreed on increasing cooperation on cyber security.
“In order to face the speedy advance of the communication technologies we have to be sure that we possess the necessary human and technical resources, and not lastly, to ensure legal tools so that we could achieve our mission,” Hellvig said, hinting for the legislative cyber security gap in Romania.
James Comey is for the first time in Romania since he took office as FBI director, in the autumn of 2013.
