President Klaus Iohannis won the lawsuit with the National Integrity Agency, after the Supreme Court gave a final ruling in this matter on Wednesday. So, the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) overruled ANI’s appeal, thus deciding that Iohannis hasn’t been incompatible during his term as Sibiu Mayor when he also represented the city hall in boards of some state companies.
Klaus Iohannis appealed against ANI’s decision to Alba-Iulia Court of Appeal in 2013 and the court had ruled in his favor.
On the other hand, the Constitutional Court had decided in December last year that the article stipulating that Klaus Iohannis and other local leaders were declared incompatible was constitutional.
President Iohannis hailed the ICCJ decision in his incompatibility file, the Presidential Administration told a press release, mentioning that the head of state has been convinced all along that he has never been in any incompatible position and that’s why he had not resorted to any appeal to postpone the pronouncement.
According to the aforementioned source, Klaus Iohannis “expresses his trust in the professionalism and the independence of the justice system and recommends all politicians to promptly answer any requests of the Justice.”
