Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu has stated after talking to PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea on Thursday that he doesn’t support unseal of the memorandum adopted by the Government on relocating Romania’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, as the PSD chairman has proposed in the party’s meeting.

We haven’t discussed that issue. It has been an idea, I personally don’t support the initiative, but the premier will take this decision,” said FM Melescanu.

He added that analysis on this topic will be ready in about one month.

We have asked all sides to submit written stances on this issue. All ministries. We have first approached the security matters. We are now working on the legal matters at the Foreign Ministry and at the same time, we also asked the ministries with economic activities to present an assessment,” Melescanu explained.

The minister said that after the evaluation is done, the document will be sent to the President, to the Parliament, to the prime minister to have a joint decision.

The memorandum adopted by Dancila Cabinet last month has stirred a scandal on the Romanian political scene, with President Iohannis embarking on a row with the Gov’t over this issue.
