Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu (photo) said on Monday that the situation coming from the flight interdiction in Romanian air space for the aircraft having onboard Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin was deliberately created to stir political disputes between Romania and Russia. Melescanu pointed to the fact that the Russian politician had previously posted on Twitter the flight itinerary, ziare.com informs.
“From my point of view, this whole issue with the flight was deliberately made to create political dispute between Romania and Russia. I say it because, just a few days before leaving for Transdnestia, Rogozin had posted on Twitter information that he would fly over Romania and also posted a map. From my point of view it was deliberate, intended to create a dispute between Romania and Russia,” Melescanu told Antena3 TV.
The head of diplomacy added that Rogozin’s gesture had a secondary significance. “He wanted to show that all the sanctions from the European Union regarding certain dignitaries, not allowed to travel in EU Member States, do not work,” Melescanu said.
Contrary to the Russian statements, the life of the persons aboard the plane was not in danger. “As the plane landed in Minsk, this reveals it had the necessary fuel for any route in this area,” the chief diplomat said, stressing the fact that Dmitry Rogozin choose to fly a civil plane, “this proves the entire operation was deliberate.”
Romanian authorities prevented a plane having on board Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, en route to Chisinau, from flying over the county’s territory last Friday. It was a civilian plane carrying a Russian delegation to R. of Moldova for talks with President Igor Dodon.
According to the carrier, Romania has refused the entry of Russian S7 carrier plane into its airspace because Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who is on a sanctions list, was on board.
According to Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) representatives, Romania did not agree for the plane having onboard Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozon to go through its airspace.
Russian deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin has denounced again the air ban against him, saying Romania “is the USA’s marionette”.
