Lieutenant-General Vasilică Sarca, deputy director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), has been discharged by president Klaus Iohannis, as he turned 60. SIE has no director since the autumn of 2016, when Mihai Razvan Ungureanu resigned from the director position.

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis has signed the decree on discharging Lieutenant-General Vasilică Sarca from the Foreign Intelligence Service and on promoting him to the rank of  general-with four stars,” reads the Presidency’s press release.

Vasilică Sarca has worked at SIE since 1990 and has held the position of deputy director since November 2005.

General Silviu Predoiu is currently leading SIE after Mihai Razvan Ungureanu’s resignation almost two years ago. Predoiu will soon turn 60 as well.
