The next Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) report on Romania will be worse than the previous ones, says Vasile Puscas, former negotiator for Romania with the European Union.

“I expect a worse CVM report, with very many question marks,” Puscas has told RFI.

He stressed that Brussels is irritated by the current governance’s unpredictability, an issue evinced by the criticism coming from the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker after the meeting with PM Viorica Dancila on Tuesday.

“We risk being placed in the same pot with Poland and Hungary in 2019,” Vasile Puscas said, adding that Romania is nevertheless far from being warned with activating article 7 of the Lisbon Treaty, as in the case of Poland.

EC President Jean-Claude Juncker told Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Tuesday that, in regard to the CVM, the Commission will continue to monitor Romania’s development, with stress on the fact that it is essential no steps back are made in terms of progress.
