Former PM Ciolos charges Liviu Dragnea on excise duties hikes

Former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos says that the social-democrat leader Liviu Dragnea has “made his calculations wrong or fooled the Romanians who believed him” and recalls that last year he had drawn attention to the fact that the measures in the PSD governing programme cannot be supported by the budget.

“Romanians have found out that the PSD-ALDE Government has prepared the increase in excise duties for fuels. Last year, I drew the attention that the PSD governing programme measures cannot be supported by the budget and that sooner or later the natural consequence will be the increase or the introduction of new taxes and duties. Unfortunately, populism has won the battle with reason and cold calculations. But Mr. Dragnea has either mistakenly calculated it or he fooled the Romanians who believed him. In one case and the other we are talking about political irresponsibility with consequences for many,” Cioloş wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
