The pursuit of rule of law consolidation and of fight against corruption is a determinant stake for the Romania’s future, said the secretary of state for European affairs with the French Foreign Ministry, Harlem Désir in Bucharest on Monday.

“The CVM report is positive, balanced, complete, while clearly pointing the last stages so that the mechanism should be lifted. What is important in our view is that Romania enhances efforts it has committed to in the past years in order to effectively implement the reforms so that they should become irreversible. I think it’s a determinant stake for the future to continue strengthen institutions, the rule of law and fight against corruption. I came here to also tell you that we know that wisdom, dialogue will help positively respond to the European Commission’s report,” said the French official during the joint press conference with the Romanian FM Teodor Melescanu.

In his turn, Melescanu pledged to Romania’s firm endorsement for the European project, yet without referring to the CVM topic-on which his party chairman, Calin Popescu Tariceanu (ALDE chair, Senate Speaker), said that it should be denounced by our country.

“We had a very good exchange of opinions on the stage and perspective of the Romanian-French relations, we reiterated the joint interest to continue cooperation on all levels and to continue implement the updated road map of the strategic partnership,” the Romanian FM stated.
