Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea doesn’t believe an independent candidature for Presidency would have any chance right now, when asked what she will do if PM Viorica Dancila will be designated the PSD candidate for Presidency.

ALDE maintains the public stance to endorse Calin Popescu Tariceanu, at least he has not withdrawn his candidature so far. As for Pro Romania, Victor Ponta voiced their support for me if I resigned from PSD, which would not be fair for Bucharest residents, for I would lose my mayor term by resigning from the party,” Firea said.

She added she is a responsible person. “I think the best chance goes to the candidates who represent political parties. We already have two candidates on the right-wing, for the left-wing the candidate is already foreshadowed. I don’t think a independent candidature, with no political support would have any chance, even if the main character enjoys a high degree of confidence,” Firea told Antena 3 on Monday evening.

Bucharest mayor said she would respect the decision taken by the PSD Executive Committee today.

PM Viorica Dăncilă, also PSD chairwoman, had previously said that Gabriela Firea would not run as an independent for Presidency, for she would lose her mayor seat.
