Gigi Becali, the owner of the FCSB football club, announced that he joined the AUR party, on whose lists he will run in the parliamentary elections, and that he will support George Simion in the presidential election.
“I joined AUR and will support George Simion in the presidential elections. I will not only support him, but I will run on the AUR lists for the Chamber of Deputies”, Gigi Becali said on Sunday for the Fanatik publication.
The FCSB boss went on Sunday together with George Simion to bring aid to the victims of the Pechea commune, Galați, after the catastrophic floods that affected the county.
In the spring, before the European Parliament elections, George Simion and Mihail Neamțu went to Gigi Becali’s house to ask for a loan – 500,000 euros – to finance the electoral campaign.
However, the boss of FCSB refused them, explaining that the law does not allow him and said that he is very cautious after serving time in prison.
“Let’s see if they give a helping hand to Neamțu, that he is running for the European Parliament. But there is no time now. And now I would have borrowed the GOLD for 500,000 (in euros – ed.) and after what they took… Let’s see… that now it’s not possible. Let’s see some formula. I’ll borrow it, but let’s see if it’s legal. I said “I’m blowing in the yogurt”, let’s see if it’s legal to lend Mihai Neamțu and he to finance his campaign. Let’s see, let’s find solutions, but I did prison for nothing. Once bit, twice shy., to see if it’s legal,” Gigi Becali declared at the time.
Gigi Becali was released from prison in April 2016, after being sentenced in three cases to 3 years and 6 months with execution. He was convicted in the land exchange case with the Ministry of Defense and later received a six-month extension, after two other convictions, in the “Suitcase” case and in the case of seizing those who stole his car.
Gigi Becali was a member of the European Parliament in the period 2009-2012, elected on the lists of the Greater Romania Party (PRM). For a short period, from December 2012 to May 2013, he was also a deputy, elected on the lists of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
