Government Sets Electoral Calendar for Upcoming Presidential Elections

The electoral period for the presidential elections begins this week, according to the calendar approved by Government decision. The presidential elections are scheduled for November 24 – the first round and December 8 – the second round.

The main milestones of this period are the establishment of the Central Electoral Bureau and the appointment of the president of the BEC, the submission of candidacies, as well as their definitive stay, the start of the electoral campaign and the holding of the two voting rounds.

On Thursday, September 12, the five judges from the High Court of Cassation and Justice who will be part of the Central Electoral Bureau for the presidential elections will be appointed. They will be chosen by lot by the president of the Supreme Court, from among the practicing judges of the High Court.

Within 24 hours of the investiture of the judges in the Central Electoral Bureau, on September 13 at the latest, the president of the BEC is elected by secret ballot.

Also, within 24 hours of the election of the BEC president, at the latest on September 14, the Central Electoral Bureau is filled with the president and vice-presidents of the Permanent Electoral Authority and a representative of each parliamentary political party.

On October 13, the representatives of the political formations that are not represented in the Parliament and that proposed candidates will be appointed in the Central Electoral Office.

At the latest on September 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is notified of the localities abroad where polling stations must be established, as well as their number.
