Gov’t comes up with new emergency ordinance draft to amend law on special pensions. Retirement requests keep flooding in
The Government has framed a new emergency ordinance draft to amend the law on special pensions, which stipulates pensions cannot be higher than the salaries earned during work and that their update should be done according to the inflation rate. Discussions between Labour Ministry and trade unions are under way.
The new draft doesn’t amend the calculation anymore, but stipulates pensions cannot be higher than the salary and the update is related to the annual average rate of inflation.
According to one of the new provisions, the quantum of the state military pensions is updated every year with the annual average rate of inflation, known on January 1st every year as reported by the National Institute of Statistics. If following update there is a lower quantum of the pension, the quantum of the current pension under payment is preserved.
At the same time, “the net quantum of the state military pension cannot be higher than the medium of the net monthly salaries according to the gross monthly salaries encompassed in the calculation base of the pension”.
The provisions are also valid for the magistrates’ pensions.
The heralded amendment of the law on special pensions have prompted a wave of retirement requests in the military structures. Hundreds of employees within Police, Gendarmerie or intelligence services have filed for retirement in the past weeks.
Precisely today, President Klaus Iohannis signed eight more retirement decrees for several police chiefs, among whom there are two deputy chiefs of the Border Police and the chief of the Transports Department within the Romanian Police.
