How did UDMR succeed to reach the electoral threshold? Dragnea- Hunor deal?
Rumours are up on how did UDMR succeed to reach the electoral threshold in the EP elections and there is talk about an alleged deal between PSD leader Liviu Dragnea and UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor.
Reportedly, Liviu Dragnea has supported UDMR to get enough votes in regions where there is no large Hungarian minority, such as Buzau, Ialomita, Olt, Galati.
According to newsweek.ro, PSD has supported UDMR with thousands of votes at the EP election. The good results for UDMR in southern Romania are allegedly related to a pre-election deal between Dragnea and Hunor to support the Hungarian minority reach the electoral threshold, in exchange for national political support.
According to scriemagyarhang.org., thousands of votes for UDMR were cast in counties with no Hungarian minority or with very few ones. “Was it a miracle or UDMR has bought votes from his old ally, PSD – we’ll probably never know,” the website reads.
In Botosani County, UDMR got 20 times more votes than the number of Hungarian ethnics; in Dambovita County – 10 times more; in Buzau County – 13 times more; in Braila County – 11 times; in Giurgiu County – 12 times more; in Ialomita County – 20 times more; in Olt County – 13 times more; in Teleorman – 37 times more; in Vaslui County – 25 times more; in Vrancea County – 11 times more.
