Several Hungarian politicians are expected to attend the events in Transylvania marking the Magyars Day on Sunday, March 15. The main manifestations are due in Miercurea Ciuc and Sfantu Gheorghe where thousands of people are expected, but similar action will also take place in other Romanian cities where an important Magyar community lives, such as Satu Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Oradea or Targu Mures.

The Hungarian National Development minister Seszták Miklós is expected to attend the meeting in Satu Mare, while state secretary within the Human Resources Ministry Soltesz Miklos will go to Miercurea Ciuc.

March 15 is one of Hungary’s three national holidays and marks the anniversary of the 1848 Revolution’s outbreak when all revolution’s Hungarian heroes are commemorated.

Last year, over 10,000 persons attended the Magyars’ Day events in Targu Secuiesc, Covasna county, Hungarian vice-premier Semjen Zsolt being present there.

State secretary within the Hungarian ministry of foreign affairs, Nemeth Zsolt was also present in Romania in 2014 attending the commemoration events in Sfantu Gheorghe and stating then that Magyars could count on Hungary’s support to obtain autonomy.
