The incumbent president Klaus Iohannis remains favorite in the race for Cotroceni, says the latest IMAS poll commissioned by Europa FM, while USR-PLUS candidate, Dan Barna comes second. Iohannis would get 44.6% of the votes, while Barna-17.3%.
The poll has not included the candidate endorsed by ALDE and Pro Romania, Mircea Diaconu, instead it measured Victor Ponta, who was credited with 14% and Calin Popescu Tariceanu- 12.7%.
PSD’s candidate, PM Viorica Dancila, comes fifth in the IMAS ranking- 8.4%.
As for the general elections due next year, the voters’ preferences are as follows: 28.4% of the those who say they will surely go to polls would vote for the National Liberal Party (PNL), reads the same barometer.
USR ranks second – 19.8%, followed by PSD-17.9%, Pro Romania-8.7%, ALDE 7.4%, PLUS-5.5%. According to the poll, UDMR would not meet the threshold to enter Parliament-4.6% and neither would PMP-2,9%.
The opinion poll has been conducted during August 5-28 on 1,010 people.
The previous IMAS opinion poll commissioned by Europa FM and released early this month also gave the incumbent president Klaus Iohannis as favorite to win his second presidential mandate
