INSCOP poll: Romanians oppose the idea of ​​Romania leaving the EU and NATO

Three quarters of Romanians are against the idea of ​​Romania leaving the European Union, and 4 out of 5 Romanians are against leaving NATO, according to a survey conducted by INSCOP between March 1 and 17.

“The alarmist debates regarding the collapse of Romanians’ confidence in the EU must be nuanced because they do not reflect the reality of public perception and can represent fuel for various entities with anti-European and patriotic speech. Romanians’ trust in the EU has not collapsed! It rises and falls periodically depending on various topics on the agenda, but we cannot talk about a collapse. Moreover, given that more than three fourths of Romanians do not want Romania to leave the EU and 80% do not want Romania to leave NATO, things become very clear. Our membership in the EU and NATO is one of the greatest gains in history for the entire Romanian nation that was established facing the West. Our identity DNA was built precisely on this belonging to the West, and even if geography often played tricks on us, we have survived here in a strong island of Latinity, with a Romance language and a truly European culture”, says the head of INSCOP , Remus Stefureac.

Exiting the European Union

76.8% of the respondents think that Romania should not exit the European Union , while 19.7% would agree with the exit of the country from the EU bloc. 3.5% of survey participants do not know or do not answer.

Exiting NATO

80% of respondents believe that Romania should not exit NATO, while 16.1% share the opposite opinion, and 3.9% do not know or do not answer.

The opinion poll was carried out by INSCOP Research on behalf of the New Strategy Center. The data were collected between March 1-17, 2023, the research method being the interview through the questionnaire.
