“A party-independent president seems to be a more desirable profile for the Romanian population, compared to a party representative. Regardless of the age category or the type of locality in which they live, Romanians have a stronger preference for a president independent of parties. The only categories in which the opinions are more balanced are the population over 60 years old and the residents in rural areas. In the case of voters of the main parties, the data show that no less than 40% of PSD voters are of the opinion that the future president of Romania should be independent of the party. Moreover, the same opinion is shared by 44% of PNL voters, 49% of AUR voters and 58% of USR voters. These data explain why almost all the candidates of the parties measured for the presidential elections have a lower voting intention than that of the parties they represent”, says Remus Ştefureac, director of INSCOP Research.
