INSCOP – Voting intentions for local councils: PSD – 28%, PNL – 26%, AUR 14%

According to a recent INSCOP survey commissioned by News.ro, PSD holds 28.4% of voting intentions in local council elections, followed by PNL with 26.7% and AUR with 14.4%. Compared to the March survey, these figures reflect a slight decrease of over 2% for PSD, a marginal increase of more than 1% for PNL, and a notable decrease of 3% for AUR.

The research shows that the intention to vote for political parties in local elections (for the Local Council of the city / commune) is 80.6%.

28.4% of voters indicate PSD (compared to 30.6% in March), 26.7% PNL (compared to 25.6% in March), 14.4% AUR (compared to 17.4% in March), 10.8% United Right Alliance (USR, PMP, Forța Dreptei) (compared to 9.8% in March), 3.7% SOS Romania (compared to 4.3% in March), 5.3% UDMR (compared to 4% in March), 3.3% Alliance AER (Green Party, Romanian Ecologist Party) (compared to of 3.1% in March), 1.9% Pro Romania Party (compared to 2.4% in March), 1.9% REPER, 1.6% PUSL. 1.9% indicate another party (compared to 2.7% in March).

56.9% of those interviewed say that they will vote in the European Parliament elections with the party/alliance of which the preferred candidate for mayor belongs (compared to 58.1% in March). 32.3% say that they will have another option in the European Parliament elections than the party/alliance of which the preferred candidate for mayor belongs (34.9% in March). 4.7% say that they have not decided (2.9% in March), 3.8% that they are not going to vote (3.3% in March), and 2.4% do not answer (0.7% in March).

Who will vote in the European Parliament elections with the party/alliance of which the preferred candidate for mayor belongs, in particular: PSD-PNL voters, people over 60, those with a lower level of education, inactive people, those with a low income and rural residents.

Those who will have another option in the European Parliament elections than the party/alliance of which the preferred candidate for mayor belongs, are mainly ADU voters, people with a higher level of education, gray or white collar workers, urban dwellers, private employees.

When asked what should be the priority of the future mayor of their locality, 24.4% mention the creation of jobs and attracting investors, 19.4% health (hospitals, dispensaries, etc.) and 14.2% education (schools, kindergartens, nurseries). 13.6% indicates the development of road infrastructure/streets, roads, 12.5% public utilities (water, sewer, public lighting, heating, etc.), 3.7% public safety, 3.3% cleanliness, 2.5% combating pollution (air, water, soil), 1.8% parks/green spaces/recreation areas. 2.6% mention another priority, and 2.1% do not know or do not answer this question.

“PSD and PNL have a much more balanced ratio in terms of voting intention for local elections, most likely reflecting the structures of mayors of the two parties. The voting intention for the PSD decreases slightly, while for the PNL it increases very slightly compared to last month’s measurement. The cumulative score of PSD and PNL in the local elections is 55%, approximately 9 percent higher than the score for the PSD-PNL Alliance measured in the European Parliament elections. The intention to vote for AUR in local elections also drops significantly, which confirms the trend of this party registered in terms of voting in the European Parliament elections”, says Remus Ştefureac, director of INSCOP Research.

The poll in April confirms the fact that approximately one third of the voters will have a different voting option in the European Parliament elections than the party of which the preferred mayor belongs, which partially disproves the thesis regarding the transfer of votes from mayors to parties, but “the PSD-PNL voter pool remains the most disciplined”.
