Romanian Chamber of Deputies and the Irish Parliament will sign a memorandum of understanding to help Romania get ready for taking over UE Presidency in 2019. The decision was sealed on Tuesday during a meeting between Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea and Irish Parliament Speaker Sean Barrett.

25 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Ireland were marked on April 18 this year.

“Romania and Ireland have a solid partnership, based on a very good bilateral cooperation on European and international level (…) We talked about Ireland’s experience in the EU, related to its EU funds absorption (…),“ Zgonea said, unveiling the two countries will sign a memorandum of understanding for the next 4-6 years.

In his turn, the Irish Parliament Speaker hailed the memorandum of understanding, saying it will offer Ireland’s know-how in preparing Romania to take over EU Presidency in 2019.

According to Sean Barrett, Ireland has got strong expertise in this field, including many officials who are experienced in training politicians to take over high positions within EU.
