Silvian Ionescu, former Foreign Intelligence Directorate (DIE) officer, has suggested that sources from Ilfov County claim the former Chamber of Deputies Speaker Valeriu Zgonea will be appointed as Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) head, to replace Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, who has recently resigned, evz.ro reports.

Ionescu has said for the above mentioned newspaper that he has credible sources and that President Klaus Iohannis will make the decision soon to name Zgonea as SIE head.

Valeriu Zgonea was Chamber of Deputies Speaker during July 2012-June 2016. On October 18, 2015 was elected as Executive President of the Social-Democratic Party (PSD). On April 27, 2016 he was excluded from PSD following his statements against the party’s president Liviu Dragnea.
