Kelemen Hunor: UDMR will not join ruling, talks on endorsing PSD-ALDE in Parliament under way
The chairman of the Democrat Union of Magyars in Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor ruled out a governmental collaboration with PSD-ALDE. However, the UDMR leader revealed that his party held talks with PSD-ALDE coalition on a potential partnership in Parliament, but discussions are ongoing with a final conclusion still pending.
“We had a first talk, but we haven’t reached a final conclusion yet, something that could be publicly presented. We are to have new discussions on Tuesday and Wednesday until we reach a joint stance if the case,” Kelemen Hunor stated on Monday evening.
However, he ruled out the possibility of UDMR joining the ruling next to PSD-ALDE.
“We are not talking about the government. PSD and ALDE have already signed a political agreement, have a coalition and a parliamentary majority. We just talk about a punctual parliamentary collaboration, not something else. If we had talked about government, then we would have signed the coalition agreement (…) Ruling is out of the question at the moment,” Kelemen Hunor pointed out.
After sealing the protocol setting up PSD-ALDE ruling coalition, Social Democrat chairman Liviu Dragnea on Monday announced that there will also be a meeting with UDRM to discuss a collaboration protocol for support in Parliament.
